Josh, What are the top ten things that you would recommend for someone to read who loves reading?

Dear Bookworm,

If you love reading, then you’re already way beyond me as far as reading material goes.  I’m still taking the Mark Twain attitude.  Twain defined a classic as, “something that everybody wants to have read and nobody wants to read.”

As far as finding specific books, I don’t have much of an opinion.  I am into this phase where I buy books that say, “The Essential [Author’s name]” or “The Complete Works of ….” or “The Pocket Encyclopedia of …” or “The Speeches and Letters of …”.  Of those series, the ones I most enjoy are:

Mark Twain

John Milton

Neal A. Maxwell

Abraham Lincoln

Gordon B. Hinckley

C.S. Lewis

Edgar A. Guest

Ogden Nash

Ralph Waldo Emerson

  1. …and what would compel someone to do such a thing?

  2. I don’t know, I guess they just like writing. Or maybe the publishers just kept on paying them to write. In any case, there seemed to be a profit to be made by compiling all those works of those authors. So… yay for them.

  3. That don’t make no sense ;o)
